Once upon the colonial time,
Malang was a city awarded as the loveliest town in South East Asia.
Until this date it has remained one of Indonesia’s most beautiful cities,
drifting along in an air of nostalgia. It is where old Dutch planters
and civil servants used to retire to a life of ease and luxury in a
warm and homey city. Tugu Malang is located at the heart of the city,
looking out to a monument of Indonesia’s struggle for independence,
thirty meters from the old Dutch town hall (presently: Balai Kota
Malang/Malang Town Hall). |
It is the break spot in the middle of journeys to Bali as well as the departure
point for an early morning trip to the magnificent Mt. Bromo.
Tugu Malang is the home of a fine collection of antiques influenced by Dutch
colonial and classic Indonesian flavor. This unique collection further enhances
the impression of Tugu Malang to be more than just a hotel; it is an antique
gallery as well. Through private balconies, the rooms’ doors open to a lush
garden of greens, sun shining down through the leaves of palm trees creating
an exotic tropical paradise.
The suites, on the second floor, overlook to the huge waterlily pond and the
city monument, while Malang Tempoe Doeloe suites offer the strong atmosphere
of Malang in the old Dutch colonial times.
When the sun sets behind the mountains of Malang, then sit back, enjoy our special
blend of Java tea and coffee and experience the traditional Javanese cakes at
Tugu Tea House. Next to the Melati Dining Room with its unique Gebyok Kudus
screen and old Batavia sculptured pillars, Tempoe Doeloe Bar welcomes you with
pre-dinner drinks, after dinner liqueurs or anything else you would wish to
have. A private candlelight barbecue dinner under the stars is available at
the poolside, or to dine more in style, the Raja Room is specially set for exclusive
dining.
