About the Menu

In Samarra Restaurant & Lounge, we present the forgotten satay market (pasar sate) presents a large variety of sumptuous grilled satays from all over Indonesia with distinctive sauces, as well as delicious Arabic-influenced Indonesian dishes that are hard to find anywhere else.

Waldirum Rooftop, the new refurnished open-air wine and sangria terrace on the 3rd floor of Samarra Restaurant & Lounge is inspired by Wadi Rum, one of the world's outstanding desert landscapes, situated in the friendly and peaceful nation of Jordan, a truly breathtaking scenery and a chance to experience desert life and Bedouin culture. With capacity to seat 60 guests and with the selection of lounge and chill out music every night, entering Waldirum Rooftop is a secret hideaway from the busling Jakarta, one is like stepping into the wardrobe full of winter coats that led to Narnia. A perfect place to hang out with good friends, sipping a glass of sangria, sample the delicate tapas selection and walk into a world of fantasy adorned with Arabian-night lanterns, sultan's cushions, intimate flickering candles floating and sensual 1001 Nights grooves.

Sate Iboe Sarongan Tanah Djawa & Bali, In the old days, in remote villages in Bali & Java, a colorful satay parade of village vendors would take place every evening. The women from the village would put on their best sarong and kebaya with baskets of satays slung on their backs, and walking down to the evening markets or the squares, they would sing flirtatiously, so that their customers would get hooked and would only buy from them. Later on, these women and their satays were then known and identified by the batik sarong (also known as 'sewek') they wore. At the end of the night after the market, the vendors would count the number of the satays sold and gave 'commission' to the 'satay mafia boss', usually the male supplier that led each group. This parade of the Sate Ibu Sarongan is now part of the forgotten history of Indonesia and is only brought back to life now by the Tugu group.
